The Truth Behind the Tinsel
November 30, 2025 / Dr. John P. MarrThe Truth Beneath the Tinsel
Why do we celebrate Christmas?
John 1:14-18 CSB
I. Jesus Became Human (The Incarnation) John 1:14a
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us… We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Philippians 2:6–8: He “made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”
1 Timothy 3:16: “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh…”
II. Jesus Displayed God’s Perfect Character (Full of Grace and Truth) (1:14b, 17)
4b, 17: “…we have seen his glory… full of grace and truth… grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
Colossians 2:9: “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.”
2 Corinthians 5:21: “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
III. Jesus Made the Invisible God Knowable (The Only Son Has Made Him Known)
18: “No one has ever seen God; the only God… he has made him known.”)
Colossians 1:15: “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”
Hebrews 1:1–2: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…”
John 14:9: “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
When you celebrate Christmas this year,
reflect on the truth that the God of the universe became human to save you.
