Week 4 – The Life-Giving Spirit
Text: Romans 8:1-11
1. You are condemned, and you are . (1-2)
Romans 8:1-2 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, 2 because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.

2. Christ sin in the Flesh. (3)
Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering…
1 Peter 2:24 CSB He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.

3. Walking in the Spirit the Law’s requirements. (4)
Romans 8:4 in order that the law’s requirement would be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Galatians 4:4-5 NLT – 4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.

4. Walking is the Spirit means you have your set on the things of the Spirit. (5)
Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on the things of the Spirit.
Colossians 3:2 CSB – 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

5. Life in the Spirit brings and . (6)
Romans 8:6 Now the mindset of the flesh is death, but the mindset of the Spirit is life and peace.
Galatians 6:7-8 CSB – 7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap, 8 because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

Romans 5:8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Hebrews 11:6 CSB – 6 Now without faith, it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

7.The Spirit of God LIVES in you. (11)
Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through his Spirit who lives in you.
1 Peter 1:21 CSB – 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory so that your faith and hope are in God.
